University of Glasgow School of Law – Call for Expressions of Interest for Leverhulme Early Career Fellowships

The University of Glasgow School of Law welcomes expressions of interest from exceptional applicants who wish to apply for a Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship (ECF) with the University of Glasgow as their host.

About the University of Glasgow School of Law

The University of Glasgow was established in 1451, with law as one of its foundation subjects. Past scholars include Viscount Stair, Adam Smith and Madge Easton Anderson (the first female solicitor in the UK). It has seven research groups –corporate and financial law, criminal law, the UKRI funded Centre for the Regulation of the Creative Economy (CREATe), the Glasgow Centre for International Law and Security, legal theory, private law and public law. About the scheme

The Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship scheme is open to candidates who hold either a degree from a UK higher education institution, or a non-permanent role at a UK HEI. It typically provides a three-year fellowship in any area supported by the Trust, including the Fellow’s salary and up to £6k per annum in research allowance. Candidates should refer to Leverhulme guidance on the eligible scope of projects which can be found here. The University of Glasgow offers significant support in the form of its Lord Kelvin/Adam Smith Fellowship Scheme.

All candidates must have submitted their doctoral thesis for viva voce examination not more than four years prior to the Leverhulme ECF application final closing date (20^th February 2025). Candidates are strongly advised to consult the Leverhulme Early Career Fellowships Guidance for Applicants 2025 for information about eligibility. Applicants are encouraged to consider how and why their proposed programme is a good fit for a Leverhulme ECF; and why the School of Law at the University of Glasgow is an appropriate host for them and their research project.

Expressions of interest

The support of the host institution and the fit with the applicant is an important component of these fellowships. As such, the School of Law at the University of Glasgow has an internal process for identifying potential applicants to this scheme.

• Your full name
• Your current research status and affiliation
• Confirmation that you have contacted & agreed in-principle support from a suitable mentor within the School
• A CV (max 2 pages)
• A Case for Support describing the proposed area of interest, ensuring it reflects the areas set out above; the proposed research project; an outline workplan; and reasons for choosing Glasgow Law School as your host institution, including areas of research and individuals whose work complements your proposed project (max 2 pages)
• Confirmation of your eligibility, reflecting the Leverhulme’s eligibility criteria.
